12:41 AM
wed: at biomed again. i'm bored. but i guess it's called paying it forward. at least my counselee eunice is nice and attitude-problem free.

thurs: had lunch with jess and ky at nydc. jess and i then met up with chief and chris for some pool (the kind that doesn't involve H2O). i've never had a session which had so many white balls going in before. twas a..novel...experience. in the end the boys vs girls ended in a tie with 3 games each. jess is really good! and to think she'd only played once before. got to get leonard to give me some of that excellent training...

fri: more payment. the eurotrip people went to pay for our air tickets at bras basah complex. had lunch at jack's place after that. susan kept getting ribbed by danielle for no good reason. haha. 21 days. we're going to kill each other. but what fun we shall have in the process! hopped over to yunnan after that to get rang&dale and some neuroanat text. just have to find a mama robbins and i'm all set for m2. sigh.

12:38 AM
anatdistinction bbq at pgp! had the time of my life. zhongkai and fuqiang are physically older than all of us but mentally...er...haha, it's good to be young at heart, and...elsewhere.

anyway, chief, ruxin and i bought most of the food from clementi ntuc at about 3 today, and though the chicken wings were only marinated for 30 minutes, they turned out rather decent. had garlic bread, corn, sweet potato, taiwan sausages, normal sausages, fishballs and chickenballs as well. not exactly man3 han4 quan2 xi2 but at least we didn't over-buy for once. and of course there were the marshmellows that expand and turn brown at the edges over the ashes - perfect cylinders slightly crispy on the outside and which dissolve on your tongue the moment you bite through...bliss...

the morning was spent trying to teach jess to swim in the src pool. funky costume my dear! XD

lost is a place too.

read that in the catholic news today. just seemed...apt. anyway, the choir sang rather nice hymns today, including one of my favourites - "You are Mine". so naturally, 'Yahweh, I know You are near" and "Prayer of St. Francis" also became stuck in my head the entire day. not that i'm complaining; i love those hymns.

saw gerard's funky new do when we visited uncle john at his house today. haha, he's turned into a scrawny, fuzzy-headed recruit! but apparently he's in scorpion company which is devoted to welfare or something like that, so his life is not completely unbearable yet.

i pray that the cms people will be as close as uncle john and daddy's batch are when we are 47 and greying. after having celebrated countless masses, easters, christmases etc together, they're practically one constantly expanding family (given that all these catholic families seem to have at least 4 children each). i can't imagine having lived without those wonderful bbqs on godpa's lawn; all that climbing on the garden swing and screaming the house down with the other kids. Dear Lord, please don't let this vision fade.

11:48 PM
wednesday night: went to actfa at mohammad sultan road. it's not bad; the free basic and intermediate class seemed to consist solely of nus med fac people. even rj and yh have been converted to the dark side!! haha...

thursday: the 5 boys came to my house to finalise the accomodation for the europe trip. chris and alvin did most of the actual work while daniel and wenxian provided the entertainment. i was literally rolling on the floor in laughter at their antics - they used chris' msn account to profess their undying love to countless confused individuals. gabby had to rush off at about lunchtime to support hc in a volleyball match that they no doubt won by a huge margin.

so i'm an escapist. does the fact that i acknowledge that i'm an escapist make me less of one? hmm... i always tell people to face their issues but personally i think i'd run. give me a good fantasy novel over reality anytime.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger's the new pope. He's now Pope Benedict XVI.

God bless the pope

12:41 AM
habemus papam!

white smoke billows from the Sistine Chapel. the bells are pealing. we have a pope.

after only 2 days of c0nclave too. it's been a long time since the Catholic Church was that efficient. i wonder who the new father of our church is.

felt rather ill today. had to drag myself to the last session of pretend-doctor-programme where we had to do a presentation on our short research attachment. sam yang and i did ours on biomaterials, though in all honesty we didn't put in that much effort. dr jan thorsten is a wonderful pdp tutor though; how many plastic surgeons-cum-clinical researchers would put in that much effort for a bunch of undeserving m1s? thanks!

12:10 AM
xen was really fun! learnt so many new things in 2 hours and all for free...well, i had to buy a glass of orange juice for $7 but it's close enough.

lots of new holds to assimilate - though the being-spun around incessibly part is still the same. life's fair i guess; the guys have to lead but the girls have to deal with the vertigo.

shines are interesting too, like the cockroach thing and the move that sounds like souffle. the more i learn, the more entertaining salsa gets.

jb, zhongyang, yijun, huiying, jasper, ghim, stephanie, vincent, jared and of course jianyang&agnes turned up on sun evening. had a great time, hope we can get together again soon.

went to the interschool wushu competition at masjuri secondary school with qi today. felt very old. i don't know my grandjuniors well enough to feel comfortable around them. and i really miss the closeness of our batch. how long can i keep going back?

12:46 AM
europe. expensive, logistical nightmare. why am i doing this again? oh yes, last long hols and p.m.s (papa-mama-sponsorship).

spent 11.30am to 7pm at chris' house trying to decide on the itinerary and accomodations. at least we've settled the cities and railway timings. his mum fed us good food as usual. XD between susan, chris and myself, we ploughed through gigabytes of webpages to find hostels at hotel prices. then there were the maps. and we still have to deal with the bookings...

if all goes well, it'll be paris, avignon, nice, florence, rome, pisa, venice, vienna, salzburg, munich and frieberg in 21 days. absolute insanity!

12:23 AM
anat viva was terrible. i hate histology. well, nevermind, it's over and THE HOLIDAYS HAVE OFFICIALLY BEGUN!!!!

i'm sorry huiying! xen here i come...muahahaha a hyper teri on the loose....oh fun laughter peace and joy...

Thursday, April 14, 2005

10:58 PM
tommorrow i will really be free! joy to the world...

couldn't study very much for the viva; no real incentive i suppose. it would be icing on the cake if i could get a distinction but i honestly don't think i have the zhen cai shi liao to see it through. regardless, m1 will truly be over by lunchtime and then it'll be play play play for the next 4 months.

had lunch with qi and jb at marche yesterday. qi kept trying to make me go for wushu training at hc after that. waving temptation in my face! managed to resist with great difficulty. oh and thanks jess for teaching biomed for me.

went to visit alvin at alexandra hospital in the morning with most of my anat group. hope that you get well soon chief! had lunch with mum at anchorpoint foodcourt after that, then went home ostensibly to study. but well...haha...

12:03 AM
had a picnic at botanical gardens with the cms people. the sun was blistering but it was quite fun to just sit around and talk. and we did find a nice shady tree so it wasn't too bad. as usual there was too much food (chicken wings, tuna sandwiches, cream puff, watermelon, grapes, ernest's delicious yam cake...); had to play zhong ji mi ma to finish it up. at least the food mostly went to people of the right gender...haha...

after lunch, chris, leonard, ernest and i walked and walked and walked from the visitor's centre to bukit timah road so we could get home. passed through smu on the way - it's a pretty school. there was a time when i considered studying there...if it had offered medicine i think i would have chosen it instead of nus. funny how life turns out sometimes.

12:40 AM
busy is good but this is ridiculous.

emotions are rather mixed at the moment...on one hand i'm happy, but on the other my freedom's been curtailed. the problem is i don't know anything about the anatomy viva, so i have no clue on how to prepare myself. but if i just take it completely unprepared i'll feel like i didn't give of my best. sigh...i think i should just learn to count my blessings.

played badminton at src in the morning, then went to east coast. rj and jb wanted to go windsurfing but the place was closed so rj and i climbed through a broken part of the fence. then the alarm went off and scared the 2 boys away. guess that proves adeco is a trustworthy alarm system.

ended up at rj's house for most of the afternoon. we terrorised his poor chinchillas while waiting for yh to appear. after an overdose of boy talk, the 4 of us went blading and cycling in the evening. i need some new blades - these trustworthy ancient ones have accompanied me since primary 6 but are beginning to provide too much resistance.

had dinner at a place with nice wo tie and satisfied my craving for anderson's ice cream.

yum.

12:41 AM
i'm high on irish cream mudpie! not sure if it's the 0.001% alcohol or the sugar rush from the cheesecake and cookies & cream mudpie i ate as well... decisions decisions....

i absolutely love going out with the wushu people; lmm, by, naima, lx, qi and i celebrated da jie's birthday at nydc. i bought her a shirt with this little girl doing chang quan on it because it reminded me of her. glad she's more cheerful these days.

after that we went to the esplanade to take silly shots. qi and i were the only ones affected by the high insulin/glucagon blood level so we sort of bullied the rest into doing strange, out-of-character poses. haha, you really had to be there to see it... reminded me of the crazy shots we took at maf when we were in j2. i think there's one with qi holding a jian to my throat and one with me running yun-er through with a dao. those were the days...

qi and i walked and talked from orchard to plaza singapura to suntec then looped back to raffles city to wait for the others from 1 to 6 pm. had lunch at sakae sushi for the 2nd day in a row. but the lunch i had with godpa, mum and dad involved a lot more red coloured plates.

i think i have a tendency to make snap decisions; less than 4 days ago i wasn't going anywhere for the hols. now, since mum will sponser me, i'm probably going to europe for 20 days in may, the family's thinking of going to taiwan in june, and then there's mt kinabalu with qi in july. and there's biomed training, salsa, sailing, cms gatherings (got to remember to start organizing carolling practices!) and just hanging out....going to be terribly busy....and loving it!

11:50 PM
hmm. dinner was...good... especially liked the soup and dessert. saw lots of interesting photos as well; robin goh really hasn't changed since sec 1, but my rg classmates certainly underwent a metamorphasis in jc. could hardly recognise them.

little boys are cute. and then they grow up. haha. can't remember jerm as an adorable 12-year old. treasure your sibs while they're still young and malleable.

11:46 PM
FREEDOM AND LIBERTY!

happy happy day....

no more anatomy, physiology and biochemistry for the foreseeable future. err, except for biomed training i suppose.

supposed to prepare notes for detoxification and the 4 basic cell types by next wednesday. not sure when i have to teach pelvis and perineum. oh the poor little sheep i shall lead astray...

and now we're all students of the yong loo lin school of medicine. i didn't know the faculty of medicine was on sale for 100 million dollars.

what should i do with all this free time? haha...good luck to those of you with upcoming exams. it'll be over before you know it.

6:23 PM
aww, i'm so touched by the sincerity and warmth of your encouragement!

it's a day for mixed emotions; qi's finally back! missed you my dear... but... the...pr....i can't say it...o..s... ahh... are looming over the horizon. on an optimistic note, that means that this time next week, i shall be as free as a bird. err. hopefully.

pope john paul II passed away at 3.27am this morning. finally returned to the Father after all his hard work. God rest his soul.
